Energy Efficiency

Energy Efficiency

Over the last 30 years homes have become more energy efficient through the installation of double glazing, cavity wall and loft insulation, these measures are designed to keep the heat in, reducing the energy required to warm your home whilst limiting expense and protecting the environment. These same measure also reduce the natural ventilation in your home and as a consequence your indoor air quality could have suffered. Lo-Carbon and heat recovery ventilation is rising in popularity to solve this problem and can ensure your family has the best indoor environment at the lowest possible running costs.

All dwellings need a supply of fresh air, not just for the health and comfort of the occupants, but also to control condensation, remove pollutants, and to maintain the fabric of the building. Building regulations also require energy efficiency to be considered when building new homes.

Air tight buildings

Homes insulated for energy efficiency

Making your home as insulated as possible means the home cannot breathe and the moisture-laden air can’t escape. This can result in health conditions and structural damage to the property. Ventilation is therefore particularly important in these homes and is central to the health of the occupants. You can still achieve low running costs and improved air quality, improving your families health by choosing the correct ventilation product.

Money saving

Are low running costs important?

Our Lo-Carbon fans are designed to save you money on your electricity bills. For as little as 1p per day to run, The PureAir Home can provide your entire home with a gentle continuous flow of air creating a healthier and condensation free environment. The single room heat recovery Lo-Carbon Tempra has been designed for bathrooms, kitchens, utility rooms and toilets. This unit not only costs of as little as 10p per week to run but it also could save you on average 10% on your winter fuel bill.

Our Lo-Carbon range utilises EC/DC motors to enhance fan efficiency

EC motors offer superior efficiency compared to AC motors, similar to DC motors. In AC motors, the number of windings impacts the strength of the magnetic field in the stator and the induced current in the rotor. However, EC motors eliminate the need for rotor-side induction, resulting in a design with fewer windings and increased efficiency.

AC motors typically waste more energy due to induction losses, which dissipate as heat. Conversely, DC motors, being synchronous, experience fewer losses and boast a longer lifespan. Microprocessor-controlled DC motors offer additional features like speed monitoring, alarms, and soft start. Additionally, 3-phase EC motors operate quieter than AC motors, even at lower speeds.

EC and DC motors are characterised by their increased efficiency, accompanied by lower operating and maintenance expenses, minimal noise emissions, decreased heat losses leading to reduced risk of overheating, compact dimensions, and simplified control capabilities.

Vent-Axia offers a range of low-carbon products that carry the trademark of ‘Lo-Carbon’, symbolising our commitment to sustainability and environmental responsibility specifically through the use of different motors as described above, as well as adapting production methods to utilise more recycled plastic in the manufacturing process used and growing our heat recovery product range.

Vent-Axia products Lo Carbon PureAir Home and PureAir Sense

Energy Efficient Products

Our fans such as PureAir Home and PureAir Sense have been specially designed with Lo-Carbon motors to ensure they are as energy efficient as possible. As a result this helps to keep your costs down with lower running costs and a longer product life. Another great way to ensure you are saving money and energy is to install a unit with heat recovery. These fans work by recovering heat from the air going out and put it back into the fresh air coming in. Units like the Lo-Carbon Tempra can recover up to 78% of heat from a room.

The UK is the first major economy to pass a net-zero emissions law with a target set to bring all greenhouse gas emissions to net zero by 2050. This has reignited a focus on energy efficiency in the UK in conjunction with the need to ensure national fuel security and the elimination of fuel poverty. With energy efficiency central to Vent Axia’s product design you can be sure to select a low energy and low carbon product from our Lo-Carbon range of fans.

Climate change

Increased energy efficiency is vital if we are to tackle climate change. Ventilation systems with Vent-Axia Lo-Carbon motors consume less energy. These motors can help tackle climate change by reducing the carbon emissions and fuel consumption of your home whilst saving you money. 1W running for 5 years means approximately 17kg CO2 emitted into the atmosphere. That is why we strive to use the lowest power consumption possible motor technology to play our part.

National fuel security

Protecting our national fuel security is critical for the UK and increasing energy efficiency will help achieve this goal. We are also moving away from our traditional reliance on fossil fuels, such as coal and gas, which are heavily dependent on imports meaning the UK is vulnerable to price increases and political instability. By switching to renewables, such as wind, solar and hydro-electric, will help create a secure energy supply whilst Improving energy efficiency in the home reduces our total energy demand. At Vent-Axia our fans are energy efficient and manufactured in the UK which also reduces the fan’s embodied energy and so further lowers carbon emissions.

Fuel Poverty

Over 10% of households in England are suffering from fuel poverty. A household is said to be in fuel poverty when it cannot afford to keep adequately warm at a reasonable cost, given its income. Increasing energy efficiency is the most effective way to tackle fuel poverty by slashing demand and bills. Vent-Axia is committed to energy efficient ventilation design which reduces waste and lowers carbon emissions, therefore contributing to tackling fuel poverty and creating well ventilated homes.
