Leading British ventilation manufacturer Vent-Axia, is delighted to be shortlisted in the prestigious CIBSE Building Performance Awards 2015 run by the Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers. The company’s Lo-Carbon EKF Kitchen Box Fan has beat tough competition to be selected as a finalist in the Energy Saving Product category. This announcement marks the third industry award the Kitchen Box Fan has been shortlisted for during the last six weeks with the fan already a finalist in the Energy Awards and the HVR Awards.
The esteemed CIBSE Building Performance Awards recognise outstanding new and innovative products which significantly improve building performance. The awards focus on actual, measured performance, not design intent or performance specifications so only proven products are shortlisted and award winners are acknowledged as best in class.
Vent-Axia’s EKF fan was selected since it offers a simple solution to both energy saving and regulatory compliance in professional kitchens. Fully compliant for ErP 2015, it also meets the new Part L Building Regulation requirements for low Specific Fan Power (SFP).
“We are delighted our Kitchen Box Fan has been shortlisted in a raft of prestigious industry awards. We believe that investing in research and development is key to our manufacturing success. We are pleased to be able to offer commercial kitchens a step change in energy efficient ventilation,” says David Cook, Product Marketing Manager – Non-Residential, Vent-Axia.
Reliable and simple to install the EKF Fan has been designed to offer professional kitchens a simple solution to both energy saving and regulatory compliance. The EKF Kitchen Box Fan comfortably meets the requirements for kitchen ventilation systems, as set out in 2013 edition of the Non-Domestic Building Services Compliance Guide, which calls for kitchen ventilation systems in both new and existing buildings to have an SFP of less than 1.0W/l/s.
The EKF Fan incorporates a highly efficient long-life EC motor coupled with an efficient backward curved impeller and an integral potentiometer that provides full manual speed control. These features reduce the Kitchen Box Fan’s energy and running costs by up to 44% when compared to AC motor fans with transformer speed control. As a result end-users will be delighted to experience a return, on the extra investment required to capitalise on this new technology, in as little as 12 months.
Developed for kitchen extract systems the EKF Fan is designed to operate continuously in elevated duct temperatures of up to 120°C. This innovative product has been designed specifically to accommodate energy efficient long-life EC motors to ensure running costs are reduced. This is possible because the EKF Fan’s motor is positioned outside the airstream, thus protecting it from grease and the high temperatures experienced in professional kitchens.
The Kitchen Box Fan also features a simple user-friendly potentiometer speed control giving end-users full control of the fan’s extract rate. This ensures that the air quality within the kitchen is kept at a suitable level for staff while maintaining efficiency levels and avoiding over ventilation. Alternatively the potentiometer can be replaced by a sensor with a 0-10v output for fully automated control of the air quality. The fan’s casing is also acoustically insulated so that it is quiet in operation providing comfortable ambience in an often hectic kitchen environment.
The CIBSE Building Performance Awards marks one of the biggest nights in the Building Services Industry’s calendar. Winners will be announced at a glittering ceremony taking place at Grosvenor House on Park Lane on 10th February 2015.
Other awards that the Kitchen Box has been shortlisted in during the last six weeks include: the prestigious Energy Awards where the fan has been nominated in the Energy Efficient Product of the Year HVAC&R category; and the HVR Awards where the fan is in the final line up within the Commercial Ventilation Product of the Year category.
