Vent-Axia, has launched its latest range of Plate and Case Sabre® Sickle fans which incorporate the revolutionary FE2 Owlet impeller. Boasting up to a 7dB(A) sound reduction and up to 15% efficiency improvement over previous ranges, the new Sabre® Sickle fans provide a significant upgrade for commercial ventilation customers. Designed to offer the best fan performance in their class the Sabre® Sickle fans feature an advanced blade design, matched to a purpose designed external rotor motor to offer unrivalled reliability and controllability as well as meeting ERP 2013 compliance.
This ground-breaking fan technology has been designed and developed using a combination of NASA research into wing performance and winglets, coupled with the study of bird flight, thus producing the best available Sickle blade profile. Vent-Axia’s Sabre® Sickle fans match this blade profile with a purpose designed close fitting mounting plate to ensure best use of the blade technology thereby reducing noise and improving performance in plate axial fans.
The development of the impeller involved researching the performance of wings and the effect of adding winglets to the end of a blade to remove unstable air currents. This resulted in significant impeller performance advances by minimising the wing tip losses and achieving performance from the full length of the impeller blade.
In addition to the winglet development, engineers studied nature to see how an owl’s wing assisted its silent flight. Following this study the shape and trailing edge of the blade were modified to include serrations and a swept profile, thereby reducing the effect of the blade passing frequencies resulting in further reductions in sound when compared to the previous Sickle bladed impeller.
“At Vent-Axia we are very excited to launch our new range of Sabre® Sickle range of fans since it offers our customers cutting-edge impeller technology which both improves efficiency and reduces sounds levels. We also hope our customers will be pleased that they can benefit from these new developments to the range at the same price as our previous Sabre® Sickle fans,” explains David Cook, Product Marketing Manager – Non-Residential, Vent-Axia.
The Sabre® Sickle fan range’s motors and impellers are factory matched and statically and dynamically balanced for smoother operation. Meanwhile, the external rotor motors are specifically designed and styled for this range of fan and manufactured to operate up to 70°C.
Available for either single phase 220-240V 50 Hz capacitor start and run or three phase 380-415V50Hz the Sabre® Sickle fan range has motors fitted with Thermal Overload Protection which should be wired into all controller circuits and into starter contactors to prevent motor damage due to overloading or overheating. In addition, ball bearings are maintenance free and greased for life plus the fans come with a 2-year guarantee.
For customers who would like optimise the benefits of the Sabre® Sickle fan’s sound reduction and energy efficiency, further savings can be made by utilising a Vent-Axia eDemand inverter speed control with the technology.
