Sussex-based Vent-Axia’s latest energy efficient solution, the Lo-Carbon iQ fan, offers truly intelligent ventilation. Combining sophisticated smart controls, smooth operation and attractive design the iQ is an aesthetically pleasing product that not only performs well, but also looks good.
Aesthetically, the clean lines and surface depth of iQ appeal to the eye and match modern bathroom fittings. With a minimal retro design and low noise levels, due to an accurately balanced impeller, the Lo-Carbon iQ is one of the most unobtrusive axial bathroom fans available. Meanwhile, the open impellor and unique method of operating the motor enables a greater array of operating options including silent continuous ventilation along with adaptable speed control and flexible timer functions.
Leading the way, the Lo-Carbon iQ introduces a unique intelligent, fully automatic humidity sensor for moisture control. This means the fan learns to run only when it can make a difference to indoor air quality. Continually monitoring and recording the moisture content the iQ maps the humidity profile throughout the year. This process enables the iQ to run only when the fan can lower the moisture content in the air. This reduces nuisance running. The fan also offers two modes for moisture control, silent or boost mode which can be selected via the touch pad control, to suit household needs.
Vent Axia has also designed the iQ to ensure end-users can easily control and understand the fan’s functions without needing to read the manual. When the fan is first connected to the power supply, it performs a self-test where all the status lamps on the control panel are tested, as well as the function of the motor. This is ideal for those installing to ensure that everything works. Simple controls, along with LED feedback, also make commissioning and readjustment quick and easy.
With many fans it is difficult to understand the exact mode that they are running on. Vent-Axia has overcome this with the iQ by providing a visual indicator to see what the fan is doing and which mode is currently active. The fan uses three different colours on the visible status lamp to communicate what mode it is in. A blue light signifies the fan is working to evacuate moisture via the humidity sensor. A yellow light signifies that the timer is running. And a purple light signifies the fully automatic airing function is active.
Cleaning is also straightforward. For a fan to ventilate effectively, it is vital that it is kept clean and that the ductwork and grilles are free from dust that can reduce the air flowing through them. This is the first fan with the ability to simply remove the impellor, open the centre of the fan and gain free access to the duct. Using the unique ‘swing-out’ function it’s easy to clean and clear the fan.
An additional useful feature of the iQ is the airing function. If the fan has been inactive for 26 hours, it runs an airing programme for 60 minutes to exchange the air in the bathroom. For end users this means no more worries about stuffy, musty odours in the bathroom when they return from holiday.
The iQ also features an intelligent overrun timer which can be operated in several different ways, either via the light switch, integral pullcord or a separate switch either as a standard On/Off or as a momentary switch stopping automatically after the overrun on time. The end user can simply set the required post-running time at 5, 15 or 30 minutes via the control panel.
For installers the Lo-Carbon iQ offers flexibility and ease of installation. Supplied with a choice of 2 spigots that are completely removable the iQ’s design enables the fan to be mounted onto a wall without any spigot so that it can be truly surface mounted. This is an ideal function if you have a duct with a smaller dimension than 100mm or a duct that bends directly off of the back of the fan not providing any depth in the wall for the spigot.
The iQ uses a low voltage motor with a life span of approximately 60,000 hours and comes with a 5-year guarantee. Featuring extremely quiet bearings, the low voltage motor significantly cuts power consumption, resulting in a fan that only consumes 5 Watts, about a third of a conventional AC bathroom fan.
The iQ fan is part of Vent-Axia’s Lo-Carbon™ collection. The aim of the Lo-Carbon initiative is to offer the latest low carbon ventilation technology to reduce building energy consumption and so carbon emissions.
