Installation of Vent-Axia’s energy efficient Sentinel Kinetic mechanical ventilation with heat recovery (MVHR) technology is helping to meet Level 4 of the Code for Sustainable Homes as part of an affordable homes pilot project in Havering, Essex.
Working with contractor partner Hill Partnerships, housing and regeneration group East Thames has renovated four pilot houses on Heaton Avenue in Romford, a site of previously unused garages, to demonstrate that high quality homes can be delivered even on small, underused plots. The four-bedroom houses have been designed to meet Code Level 4 and feature Vent-Axia’s Sentinel Kinetic MVHR system to help maintain good indoor air quality and maximise energy efficiency.
Vent-Axia’s Sentinel Kinetic is capable of 90% heat recovery, helping to reduce the dwelling emission rating (DER) of new build properties and meet Level 4 requirements. A whole house, multi-room ducted solution, this residential MVHR system combines supply and extract ventilation in one unit. Warm, moist air is extracted from ‘wet’ rooms through ducting and passed through the heat exchanger before being exhausted to the outside. Fresh incoming air is preheated via the integral heat exchanger which recovers the heat energy that would otherwise be wasted.
The Sentinel Kinetic range not only offers good air quality but also maintains it, a key issue in the new Part F of the Building Regulations. The unit can maintain pre-set airflow irrespective of system pressure (e.g. blocked filters) via a Constant Volume option. It also features a Constant Pressure option which maintains system pressure by adjusting airflow when Constant Pressure dampers open or close.
