Vent-Axia is pleased to announce that it has been shortlisted in two categories at this year’s prestigious Heating & Ventilation News Awards 2014. The Sussex-based company is delighted its Lo-Carbon EKF Kitchen Box Fan has been nominated in the Commercial Building Services Product of the Year category. Meanwhile, the firm is also celebrating reaching the final in the Retrofit Project of the Year category with the The ReallySmartHouse project, which features its innovative Lo-Carbon Tempra single room heat recovery unit.
Considered to be the ‘Oscars’ of the Building Services Sector, the H&V News Awards will be held at the Grosvenor House Hotel on London’s Park Lane on 24th April 2014 during a spectacular evening celebrating everything that’s best about the industry. Over 1,000 heating and ventilation specialists from across the supply chain will be in attendance with winners selected by a panel comprised of over 50 respected industry experts. This year’s extravaganza will attract even more attention for winners than usual as it marks the 20th anniversary of these coveted awards.

Within the Commercial Building Services Product of the Year category the H&V News Award judges selected finalists by looking for products that delivered the most in terms of energy saving and low carbon benefits. The EKF Kitchen Box Fan therefore ticked these boxes since it incorporates a highly efficient long-life EC motor coupled with an efficient backward curved impeller and an integral potentiometer that provides full manual speed control. As a result the EKF’s energy and running costs are reduced by up to 44% when compared to AC motor fans with transformer speed control. End-users will therefore be delighted to experience a return, on the extra investment required to capitalise on this new technology, in as little as 12 months.
Meanwhile, within the Retrofit Project of the Year category judges shortlisted projects that have refurbished existing buildings to an exemplary level and therefore selected the ReallySmartHouse as a finalist. A £1.2m match-funded project for South Essex Homes and Southend-on-Sea Borough Council, working in partnership with The Facility architects and consultants, the ReallySmartHouse involves an RSH ‘retrofit’ which has seen energy saving systems, such as Vent-Axia’s Lo-Carbon Tempra, installed in 45 Southend properties to reduce CO² and energy costs for residents. These reductions are actively monitored with Smart Metering so recommendations can be made for treating other properties of the same type in the borough and for wider dissemination to other councils around the country. As a result the project is an exemplum for retrofitting future social housing projects with energy efficient technology.
