Vent-Axia, a leader in low carbon technology, is celebrating winning the Energy Efficiency Initiative of the Year category in this year’s prestigious Electrical Industry Awards. Over 300 influential industry guests attended the gala dinner, on 20 October at the Royal Garden Hotel, Kensington, London, which was hosted by comedian Sean Meo.
The Electrical Industry Awards, now in its 19th year, recognises and rewards the achievements of the UK’s diverse electrical sector. Within the Energy Efficiency Initiative category the judges were looking for tangible energy savings made as a result of the introduction or application of a process, system or product.
After a rigorous judging process, Vent-Axia scooped the award for taking the lead in developing an innovative range of low carbon continuous ventilation technology. The introduction of these products met a growing market demand driven by Part L (Conservation of Fuel) and Part F (Means of Ventilation) of the Building Regulations 2010, as well as energy efficient refurbishment applications, which caused a shift from the specification of intermittent fans, in favour of more energy efficient continuous ventilation.
The legislative changes shaped Vent-Axia’s product development process with the company introducing a new, multi-purpose Decentralised Mechanical Extract Ventilation range for both new build and retrofit projects. This initiative offered contractors a well-thought out series of products that enabled them to both meet Building Regulations and take advantage of the market demand.
Ronnie George, Managing Director of Vent-Axia, said:
“We are delighted to have been recognised by the Electrical Industry for our innovations in low carbon technology. At Vent-Axia we ensure we stay abreast of issues that may change customer needs, such as legislation. Legislative pressures will continue to build in the years ahead increasing the demand for technologies that raise the bar in both energy efficiency and carbon emissions. At Vent-Axia we are committed to meeting these challenges and leading the way in developing low carbon HEVAC technology.”
Lee Nurse, Marketing Director at Vent-Axia, commented: “We are very proud to have been acknowledged for leading the move towards continuous ventilation. Not only does this type of technology provide a highly efficient and healthy ventilation system, but it is also available in modern discreet designs and is near silent in operation, which both really appeal to end users. With these type of ventilators now our fastest growing products in the refurbishment sector we hope this award will help make more people aware of the fantastic benefits continuous ventilation offers.”
For homeowners and tenants the new Decentralised Mechanical Ventilation series offers increased energy savings, key with current hikes in electricity prices, as well as near silent ventilation and no need for trickle vents. Providing a selection of products to suit various residential applications, Vent-Axia’s range is headed by the Lo-Carbon Centra®; the ideal choice for retrofitting in bathrooms; the Lo-Carbon Quadra®; perfect for kitchen applications; and the Lo-Carbon Tempra, the UK’s first single room heat recovery unit to be developed.
With traditional intermittent ventilation systems there are often peaks of high extract airflow that exceed the natural infiltration rates, this means air is heated and then simply extracted to the atmosphere, hardly efficient. The new continuous ventilation systems from Vent-Axia are designed to work with the natural air infiltration, controlling the air path from the building and thus preventing migration of damaging humidity and pollutants. This is achieved by using continuous low speed running extract fans in the wet rooms with a boost via light switch, integral pullcord or sensor, as required.
By providing ventilation in this way the extract system can run at a much lower rate all the time rather than a high rate for one or two hours a day. As a result there is no over ventilation, so reducing unnecessary heat loss.
The Centra, Quadra and Tempra are all part of Vent-Axia’s Lo-Carbon™ collection. The aim of the Lo-Carbon initiative is to offer the latest low carbon ventilation technology in order to reduce building energy consumption and so carbon emissions.
